How to Get Ready for a Photoshoot in Just 2 Days
If you’ve booked a last-minute brand shoot, this article is for you!
Whether you’re after new website images, photos for your social media, or something else for your business, a little prep goes a long way - I promise.
I have to add the caveat that while getting ready for a shoot two days away is possible, it’s definitely not recommended. In doing this it’s very likely you won’t have time to order any special props or outfits, book locations, get a manicure, hire hair and makeup, or give your hype gal enough time to join you on shoot day!
But if you want to move forward and do it anyway...
Here are the quick steps I would take if your shoot is the day after tomorrow.
Day 1: Plan, Prep, and Polish
1. Set Your Intentions & Create Your Shotlist
Firstly, get clear on your goals.
What do you want these images to say about you and your brand?
Are you:
launching a new offer?
updating your website?
creating a consistent social media content plan?
revamping all your workbooks and slide decks?
releasing a new freebie?
building new sales pages?
From here start building your shotlist, with the “must have” shots at the top. If you’re planning to refresh your website, think about the specific images you need for each section. Or, if this is for social media, think about what content you’ll need over the next few months. Stay flexible, but having a basic plan will help you and your photographer get all the shots you need without feeling rushed.
Here’s are a few examples (the more detailed the explanation, the easier it is to get right on the first go, making room for more shots!):
overhead looking down at journal with flowers peeking in
up close of what I'm writing (gratitude practice)
crossing off a mistake in my journal
me lighting sage while barefoot on beach
zoomed out of me cooking, surrounded by fruit wearing green apron
2. Choose Your Outfits
Go for three to four outfits that reflect you and your brand but also provide a nice variety. If you’re aiming to scale and come across as a luxury service provider, consider a mix of professional, relaxed, and fun looks. Think about the types of clients you want to attract and choose outfits that speak to them. Make sure they’re comfortable and match your overall brand vibe. Try on everything ahead of time to ensure it fits well and makes you feel confident.
3. Gather Your Props
Props help tell your story in a natural way, so gather items that connect with the stories we’re telling in your images. They’re also great at giving your hands something to do!
What products, tools, or personal items that speak to your business?
Maybe you’ve got a signature notebook, laptop, or coffee cup that shows a bit of your daily workflow include these and make sure the colors and styles blend well with your branding and color palette.
4. Prep Your Skin and Hair
Tonight, focus on self-care.
Start with skincare—wash your face, exfoliate, and moisturize (but only use products you trust! Now isn’t the time to find out if you have a reaction to a new product).
If you need to freshen up your hair, a quick wash or blow-dry is great, but don’t try anything new this close to the shoot. Keep things simple and so you feel like yourself.
5. Nail the Details
Nails are often overlooked. Even if you’re not a fan of manicures, tidy them up. Clean, well-groomed nails make a big difference, especially when you’re holding props or gesturing in your photos.
Day 2: Final Prep
1. Hydrate and Sleep Well
You want to feel your best, so today is all about self-care. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin looking hydrated and get to bed early so you wake up refreshed. Trust me, a little extra rest will help you feel (and look) your best on shoot day.
2. Pack your Essentials
The day before, pack a bag with everything you’ll need for the shoot:
• Outfits (including shoes and accessories)
• Props (laptop, notebooks, branded items)
• Snacks and water
• Makeup for touch-ups
• A mirror or compact for quick checks
Keep it organized so that everything is easy to access during the shoot.
3. Schedule OOO
Set your automated out-of-office email and turn off your notifications so you can stay fully present during your shoot!
4. Stay Relaxed and Have Fun
The most important thing you can do on shoot day is relax. Remember, this photoshoot is a celebration of your business and everything you’ve worked hard to build. Trust your photographer, have fun with it, and embrace the process! The more you enjoy yourself, the better your photos will turn out.
Final Thoughts
Getting ready for a brand photoshoot in just two days can be intense, but stay organized and focus on your intentions to get the most out of it. You want your photos to reflect not just your business but the vibrant, unstoppable energy that you bring to it.
That said, while can be possible to prepare for a shoot in a short timeframe, it’s not ideal if you want to get the best return on your investment.
Brand shoots take time to plan properly. You may want to order special props that tie in perfectly with your brand, but shipping could take a few days. Or, you might want to consult with a stylist or book hair and makeup artists, who often aren’t available on short notice. Even the perfect location rentals need to be booked out weeks in advance.
If you’re truly in your growth and expansion era, giving yourself about four weeks to plan a brand shoot is the sweet spot. That way, you can thoughtfully curate every detail—from wardrobe to location to props—and create an experience that not only feels aligned with your brand but also delivers images you’re excited to share.
So, if you’ve got the time, take it. Your business deserves that extra care!
